This goes all the way back to events in the first comic!

Now, don't get me wrong. I love Blacktron II. But I thought it would be interesting and fitting to present Blacktron I as the "golden age" of Blacktron that is now about gone, except for a few pilots who keep up the tradition, and Blacktron II aiming to be something else. It's also because, much to my surprise when looking back, actually, there aren't that many Blacktron I models, only six. I used to think it was a bigger theme, maybe partly because the Blacktron I pilots also showed up in Space Police, but it was a pretty small theme. I also don't own its two biggest sets, the Renegade and the Message-Intercept Base (Boy, do I want that base…). Blacktron II had about twice as many sets. Along with some of the vehicles, I have the Blacktron II base, which really beefs up the Blacktron II faction with plenty of minifigs, a large ship, and two small vehicles. The base is awesome, although not as massive and impressive as the Blacktron I base. Basically, it's easier to present Blacktron II as dominant just because there's more of it, and I own more of it. I've only got three of the six Blacktron I sets. (Well, four if you count a second Invader) I have to admit, though, I like Blacktron I better. Aside from the Invader, I think Blacktron II actually had better vehicles, but there's no beating the original Blacktron minifigs and the overall color scheme of the theme.

Common sense will tell you that the Lego Group owns the copyright on just about all of the toy designs and names in Lego: Space - The Comic. While it would be cool to be endorsed by Lego, I am not and this is purely a fan effort and tribute done for fun and no profit.
