The word "Wednesday" was actually brought about by tampering with the old English word which came before when the old Pagan beliefs were abolished. The word that it was was itself the best we could manage to make of the old Viking word, which was named as the day honouring Odin. Why then, would this lemming receive such a name?
Odin once committed suicide by hanging himself on Yggdrasill, the World Tree. Admittedly, he got better, but he still did it and it now seems appropriate for the lemming.
