The longest hike ever
Aridy onSo the hike happened the next day and I have to tell you it was pretty miserable. You see, every weekend (unless we were trapped by the mud and water), we would leave camp and go someplace interesting in Belize that went along with the Maya site that we were uncovering. This time around we went to Corozal. We were given the choice to either hike out, risking snake bite, heat exhaustion, quickmud (which is kinda like quicksand), and getting really gross on both the leaving camp and the return trip or we could stay in camp and work on the site more. I was all for staying since I had not been there so long yet, but then I was lured by the others (other anthropology undergraduate students) who told me that the way out of camp might soon be impassible, leaving us trapped, as well as the fact that there would be all the modern wonders of air-conditioning, indoor plumbing with hot showers, and a real bed. Not to mention really good food and the experience of wandering around Corozal. In retrospect, I really should have just opted to stay on site and experienced the jungle more.
