Lord Rend

The next page, featuring exposition by Light and Mira as they walk through the rather incomplete early childhood memories of Lockre. Truth be told, I really do not like this whole lack of backgrounds thing, but I am drawing from my own memories here. I mean that as in how I remember my own childhood rather than actual events, since when I think back I can remember people and maybe something associated with them, but most of the background is a blank. I look forward to the later memories they travel through, primarily because the backgrounds will return. Other than the lack of backgrounds, only two things bother me about this page: the length of Aeric's arm in the first panel and the difficulty in seeing the shading on Light and Mira in the second and third panels. Oddly enough, I really enjoyed doing the gold embroidery on Tyria's clothing, despite how difficult it was to do.

Oh, I also apologize for the abrupt transition between panels six and seven, but they simply walked into another memory chamber. The memories following this transition take place several months after the memories from the first sequence, hence the change in clothing for Lockre and his mother.

On this page is the best (although indirect) explanation of the armored mantle Aeric wears. It is actually a diplomat's mantle, typically worn whenever a Feralis travels abroad as a diplomat. The mantle is enchanted with various spells to help repel poisons and shield against assassination. It also contains an emergency teleportation spell that transports the wearer and those near him back the the capital city of the Union.

This page also features the first appearances of Tyria and Marcus, Lockre's sister and brother respectively. Tyria, the younger of the two, is about seven years old at this point while Marcus is twelve. I do realize that Tyria does not look any older than Lockre, but this is because Feralis females mature and age slower than males Feralis.
Moving on, Tyria is a future Asterium Sage, gifted in their typical talents of telepathy and telekinesis. Her paler fur color comes as a result of the color of both her parents mixing (if you were to take a closer look you would see that half the hairs of her fur are the same color as Aria's and half are the same color as Aeric's). She also wears clothing more typical of the common person in the Union rather than the more standardized outfits of the mages.
Marcus, the eldest, is a future Unuon mage (or Paladin) who was just accepted into one of their academies. His fur color is darker and he dyes the tip of his tail and his 'mane,' typically favoring a dark red color for both. His clothing is fairly typical of a young Unuon initiate and lacks the armor typically worn by proper Unuon mages. Also of note is the faux-ivory chain he wears around his neck (the links are too small to see individually).
The three siblings actually get along quite well, due to (or possibly in spite of) the difference in their ages. This is likely for the best, as will be explained on later pages. The fact that they can use spells despite a lack of formal training is due primarily to their parents giving them some lessons in magic manipulation.
