City of Intrigue pg 25

Lord Rend
on

And here is what I consider to be the real twenty-fifth page, namely because it is the twenty-fifth story page. Again, I am actually happy with the way it turned out, particularly the sunset in the fourth panel and the scroll in the seventh panel. The effects turned out well too…

There is not much to say about this page except mentioning that Light's 'body' is not currently real, except in panel six where Lockre is attempting to give his friend a physical form. Unfortunately, the Ferilis of So'la are less universally tolerant of mages… There are many tribes and factions of the So'la Ferilis who believe that mages pervert the natural order of the world by altering it with their magic. It is a philosophy most prevalent in So'la, but it is derived from a philosophical movement called the Balance. Those who agree with the concept believe that the world is naturally balanced and sentient beings unbalance it. For example, building a city prevents an area of the world from being affected by natural forces such as erosion and thus, other areas must suffer more from such forces to re-balance nature (similar to how breakwaters cause greater erosion downcurrent from where they are). By the same token, in order to get their power, mages must diminish nature in some why although how is hotly debated. In So'la in particular, they believe that mages diminish nature by twisting it to suit their own needs, something which diminishes the amount of nature is left to maintain the balance.

Speaking of the So'la Ferilis, the subtypes shown in the final panel (from left to right) are: buffalo, kangaroo, whitetail deer and antelope.
