Linked Fate
Author notes
City of Intrigue pg 37
Lord Rend onI realize this page is a couple days late, I hoped I would be able to upload it on Saturday, but that just was not going to work out in the end. At least my schedule is free and clear for a few months now, updates should occur every Saturday from now until December at least (baring maybe the occasional glitch, but no hiatus).
And so begins the wrap-up of Lockre's backstory… Not exactly a happy ending, sorry, but the fact is that every Fader eventually ends up becoming like Argus eventually (that Light says one possible outcome is optimism on his part). Just a couple pages left in the backstory and maybe one or two more left in this phase. I will see what I can do to hurry the remainder of this phase along, particularly since it has lasted much longer than I wanted it to in the first place (in times of number of weeks, not in terms of number of comic pages).
Finally, there are some interesting features on this page that I would like to explain. First is the group of Ferilis confronting Lockre in the third panel. The group consists of both types of dragon Ferilis, the Western type on the right and the Eastern just to the left of them. The Eastern type, who have not really been discussed up until now, are unique among the Ferilis as they are the only type of Ferilis to have wind magic, regardless of what type of mage they might be otherwise. From a practical standpoint, their legs are incapable of really moving them in an efficient manner so they need to be able to fly in order to go anywhere. It is not a genetic quirk or some mysterious trait though, the reason is quite simple: their horns are actually artifacts imbued with wind magics at birth, although they would never let anyone know.
Second item of note is in the fifth panel and is the odd rune inscribed text. As mentioned before (in the database I believe), the watchtowers near the cities also act as a kind of guidepost, letting travelers know where their destination might be. Highly useful in a land that consists mostly of (literally) featureless grasslands surrounded by mountains.
The last thing of note is the Aetheris Sage Academy, which is shown in the final panel. The structure is actually built into the mountain, with only about half of it being 'above ground.' Also of note, the scale is a little deceptive given the size of the doors… the sub-peak the Academy is built into is over three thousand feet high. However, despite its massive size, the Academy is fairly empty (there being only ten thousand Aetheris Sages, most of whom do not stay in the Academy beyond their schooling), and much of the space is actually devoted to massive libraries containing information on everything from advanced magical theory to how to make candles.
One last thing before I go: I will be revising the information written down in the forum in order to make sure that nothing contradicts what is in the comic (the comic being the most canon currently so to speak). If anyone happens to notice something that contradicts the comic, please let me know, I want to make sure that everything makes sense before I establish the database as equally canonical. Once the process is done, I will continue updating the database and add the link back to the main page here.
Thank you and have a good week I will return Saturday with a new update.
