Local Look Awesometown Editorials

Bottoms Up
Awesometown onI think about my comic throughout the week whenever I get a chance for what probably totals to at least 8 hours… this is just while I'm at work doing my real job which I'm growing less and less fond of… then on Friday I'm given a 3-4 hour break from my job responsibilities to meet with the editor and show him any sketches I have and get a comic made… I work from the stories that have run in the newspaper that week, I don't have the luxury of sitting in on the morning meetings with the writers where they talk about their ideas and what stories are on the horizon… if I did, I'm not sure if my comic would be better or worse. For the most part, I am the only person pushing Local Look along, I get support from odd places, and a lack of support from my own department at times… but I have to say that I really enjoy what I do. I think I do it pretty well, I have no idea if I could get a job at another paper if I were to leave here… but I'm sure the day will come when I will try, only because this paper will never have the budget to create a real position for an editorial cartoonist. As it is I don't even get paid for my strips, just a sad hourly wage for the time it takes to draw. This is the reality of the beginner editorial cartoonist in the quickly fading, least-respected job in the newspaper business. I have never been recognized on the street, I never get letters from the community saying they like my work… but once in a while I'll be told that some local public figure has one on my cartoons hanging up in his office and it makes me smile. Much like the comments I get on here from people I don't even know. I want to say thank you to everyone who reads Local Look, it means alot to me.
Now that I have bored you…
This weeks comic is pretty simple, I spent longer drawing the booze in the background than I did planning it out. I'm not really sure how regional the joke is. In Florida because of the high elderly population it is almost impossible to get a flu shot. I know there have been shortages all over the United States, but I don't know if it has caused as much panic anywhere else as it has here. Because of this however, people who want a flu shot have been forced to try and track them down where ever they can… I don't think any local bars will be very helpful, unless of course you are looking for this…
Flu Shot
Ingredients
1 Collins Glass
3 oz Mount Gay Eclipse Rum
1/2 oz John D. Taylor's Velvet Falernum
1 oz Sour Mix (Homemade)
1/2 oz Lime Juice (fresh)
2 dashes Fee Brothers Orange Bitters
Instructions
Shake and pour. Top with club soda. Garnish with a lime.
I've never had it… but I'm tempted to go to a bar and ask for one now…
