The new Avon Park police chief had a little bit of a problem on the way home from his second job interview. It seems he hit a deer… not a huge problem if he wasn't driving a Daytona Beach Police Department police car which he borrowed without permission.
The irony of this whole situation is that the opening which the new chief is filling was created because the previous chief was forced to resign when he battled with the City Councel over the vehicle take home policy. Frank Mercurio stood up for his officers who he allowed to take their vehicles home even if they lived beyond the city limits, which is strictly against the writen rules.
The fact that the man that the City Councel hired to fill his shoes borrowed a Palm Beach city vehicle to drive 100 miles to his job interview leaves a couple people with egg on their face. But I'm sure Frank Mercurio will get a pretty good laugh out of it.
