@SarahN, Scythe Massakur, thorgodofrpgs - its a concealed weapon. A mini-rifle that is activated by his thoughts. This concept was actually inspired by a documentary I saw on Discovery channel about old inventions that were never mass-produuced. There was this gun helmet invented during WW1.

Its also practical in a gunfight. You don't need to expose yourself too much just to shoot.
