Traditionally its 7 (any yoga teacher would tell you that) but there are those who say its 12.

The chakras are not only some Eastern / New Age concept. Esoteric variants of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism teach this stuff in their religion. Its the literal variants of the monotheistic faiths that tend to call this stuff doctrines of the fallen angels.
