To everyone who wrote about being unable to send me their fanart because of the drunkduck problems, I am giving you until DECEMBER 4, 2010 to hand in your fanart. The best one will get leaderbord advertising for the month of December and the first few days of January. But regardless, your artwork or fanfic will be shown together with a link to your website / comic / blog / etc.

_______________

Another filler sketch… in an attempt to improve my art skills, shading technique, and to deeper understand how everything can be broken down in shapes. Drawn from life. I think I screwed up a little on the perspective of the cast shadow. oh well. :(

@Walrus - not really "tremendously" Maybe 20-30%… and its not gonna be evident in the next two or 3 updates. Wait maybe a month from now to see the improvements. You see, its one thing to COPY from life or from an existing drawing or picture. Its another to jot it all down from memory as you base it on the 3-D image you have that is stored in your memory and rely upon your built-in knowledge of proportion, perspective, lighting, etc.

Thats the reason why I've seen people who can draw awesome realistic art but start to suck so bad when drawing stylized cartoons or from memory.

And dont forget translating your knowledge into Photoshop. I've seen people who are awesome at painting but suck when it comes to translating it into Photoshop.

Its been awhile since I took a half-assed effort to improve my art. I'm at the point where I just feel bad that the rate of improvement I had from 2008 - 2010 was only 10% or less – a rate that just comes naturally through repetition WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF CERTAIN CONCEPTS.

I'd be glad to be nominated for most improved comic again. Last time I took that award was in 2004 for Brood Knight [Shattered Hate]. Because that was the time when I was formally studying art and putting alot of effort to improve. My goal back then was to be good enough so as to get into animation. Got disheartened after hearing all the shit about animators getting screwed and being overworked and after getting rejected 5x from reputable animation schools. The only school that accepted me was the one that asked me for $30,000… and my art was at BK[shattered hate] level (midpart of the comic maybe chapter 7 or 8).

Anyway, I'm committed to improve my art. For now, push it up 1 or 2 levels above my present skill level. Then Ill see what happens next. If this comic isnt getting alot of attention I dont think I will feel the need to improve my art skill. At its present level, I also feel that my art skill doesnt do justice to this comic. If this was one of those "gag a day" type of comics, sure. But no. This comic is serious shit. :)

@maycroft - see private message. If you didnt receive my PM, please see announcement. Send your art by pm or by email by clicking "contact" on the top navigation menu.
