The alternate to this would have been the Boogeyman talking about how Halloween is his night, then Death bursting in with a trick-or-treat bag (or pail) shouting, "Do you want my candy corn?" Old Bog then proceeds to break down about how Death always ruins everything. "Gawd!"
I felt it was too immature for such a terrifying creature - though he is a bit immature when it comes to Death anyway, it would have been a bit out of character. Even for a complete OOC fourth wall breaking miniseries like this, I felt it was a bit too much. He is the exception to the rule.
Death, however, has no rules. He could acknowledge the readers in-universe if he wanted to.
