Some year's ago Robert and others were pulled through the multiverse to a version of Earth that has superheroes. The bad guys employed Bones’ shapeshifting ability to impersonate the President of the Uniter States. He was being held against his will he tricked Robert into killing him, and freeing him from his captivity.
Robert was nearly broken by this event. He was sent home. Bones really does not have any hard feelings.
