So, for those of you who are not in Southern California, let me fill you in on the "Inland Emperor" and the Empire mentioned in this strip. It's just a reference to SoCal's Inland Empire:
quoted from Wikipedia "The Inland Empire is a region mainly located in the Riverside and San Bernardino counties of Southern California. The Inland Empire is centered in the region's oldest cities: Ontario, San Bernardino, and Riverside. These cities were established at about the end of the 19th century and were major centers of agriculture including citrus, dairy, and wine-making. The name "Inland Empire" was first used in the 1950s to distinguish the region from the coastal communities of the Greater Los Angeles Area, and Los Angeles itself."
Also, may I add that it's now where the Emperor lives in the Man-Boys world… and this Emperor has a goatee. And just for a bit more info, we all live in the Coastal areas referred to in the Wiki blurb, so you know he'll be a formidable enemy. So yeah, the start of a stupid ongoing joke… but we think it's funny.
And another thing, there will be a Man-Boys! strip this Friday despite the fact that we'll be at Comic-Con in San Diego. And if you're there, come check out the Comicbook Artists' Guild panel on Friday, 5pm in room 24A. Brett will be on the panel with other artists discussing what CAG is all about and his experiences with indie publishing.
