Ethel's appearance went through some changes before she reached the version you see in Spaceman. She looked a lot crazier at first, with big plastic sunglasses and wild hair – the prototype version can be seen at http://www.mearnsworld.com/char-bios/ethel.php. We axed the glasses because they'd hide her eyes, and the hair became a lot less frazzled, until we had a less intimidating figure for her.

Caio actually went back over the first ten or so pages before publication and 'restrained' her hair because we had initially been doing the frazzled look.

About that time Caio mentioned that he was growing more and more fond of her as he went along, and I think it shows in some of the beautiful, very human closeups he did – the one on this page being a noteable example.
