There may not be a universal language, but there is apparently a universal card game!
Guess who grabbed that guys from the last page's wallet? Good thing he didn't need it anymore!
Language lessons, in this case, is less of a lesson and more telepathically gaining knowledge from the omnipotent powers that created Mara and Gedon, effectively allowing the universes languages to be learnt in minutes.
Mara still didn't bother with that!
