British issue boots were called Ammunition or Ammo boots and were typical uncomfortable hob nailed ankle boots. If you scroll back to when Millicent was last in uniform you'll see them. The gaiters were canvas anklets with buckles. There were other types that wrapped around that were used with the hose tops and shorts made famous by the 8th Army in North Africa.
