Hallowe'en Special - Gesche Gottfried (Fun Facts VI) - Part Two

Poor Christian. He's too nice a guy not to believe every kind of rubbish she tells him.

The thing with the constant threat of Gesche's ghost coming back from the underworld is just an invention of Gundula's to play a trick on Christian. There are many wild rumours about the case, but this is not one of them. The rest, however, is all true. The stone is really there (I took the photo myself), and you are really invited and expected to spit on it whenever you pass by.

Hallowe'en isn't widely celebrated in Germany, and it has only become more popular in the last ten to fifteen years. Still, I like it quite a lot, and I had loads of fun putting together these two pages. Honestly now: I couldn't make a Bremen-based webcomic anyway without at some point including the story of Gesche Gottfried, whose name is mentioned in one breath with those of Jack the Ripper, Fritz Haarmann or Ted Bundy.

Next Hallowe'en we might take a brief trip into the cellar of the cathedral (even if that means I have to draw it again - oof!) but I haven't decided on that yet.

Well, and next week we'll accompany the tiger to the vet, won't we?
