The calm before the storm

I'm a bit pressed for time at the moment and I'm sorry if today's page looks a bit rushed. I've got a lot of things to do right now, but it'll eventually get better.

You might observe that Gundula's cellar has an access to the garden. This is no accident on my part, because the back doors of old Bremen terraced houses are always in their cellars.
As most of the city was built on drained marshland, none of them actually have a cellar in the usual sense (i.e. underground) - it'd be flooded at every small shower. So what people refer to as the cellar is actually the ground floor. However, the street level is about 5 ft. higher, so all the front doors are actually in the first floor and traditionally have seven steps before them.

It might also mean that some day I'll have to redraw some of my first pages where I forgot to draw the staircase. Grrrr!!
