Terror in Sector Five - Page 09

Well, I think when I did the layout for this page, I ended up putting a ton of dialog on that first panel because I wasn't sure if I was going to spend much time on it or not– Once I started in on drawing it though, I wanted it to get kinda detailed (for me at least) with it, and so I did.

Side note: You may have noticed, I tend not to get too dialog heavy in any one panel. In fact, in most cases, the way I prefer to pace things, is break up the panels according to the dialog (atypical of standard American mainstream comics, but feels the best to me).

So, then going back and lettering it, I realized, that the word balloons were covering of a huge chunk of my artwork. So, naturally I kicked myself for a while over that, and even pondered some alterations and re-writes to the dialog to deal with it. Ultimately, though, I decided to leave everything more or less as it was, and I am still pretty happy with it.

There's you're behind the scenes for this particular page.

ANYHOW– THURSDAY, BE HERE because, I am telling you, they find who they are looking for, and its someone we thought we'd probably never see again! Who could it be? Find out then!

Thanks for reading and commenting, as always, and take care!

always1961 - Careful Indeed!

wellsee - Its a distinct possiblity!

DAJB - Those are some words of wisdom right there, my friend!

AzuJOD - hahah! Well, for me, that's the SECOND thing I think of. This was the first Tibor I knew, and it was funny because when I'd hear it on the Simpsons, I'd think back to this guy, who, by the way, was NOTHING like "comic book guy."

Tharisfal - Thanks for checking in, and wow, those are some kind words! I do my best, thanks!

seanb47 - Its definitely a sad time for the printed book. One of the interesting take home points from WonderCon– I've been doing the convention circuit for about a year and half, and its literally gone from me explaining that my printed books are from my webcomic to puzzled faces, to people saying "this is neat, is it available online?" On the same note, I sold more books than ever, and this year had twice the attendance of last year (or so I heard). I do think print is on the decline, and its bad for the LCS (local comic shop; for the benefit of other readers) more than anyone else. I think that webcomics and digital distributuion actually open a lot more doors both for creators trying to reach an audience, and for potential comics fans being exposed to comics than what the direct market has been accomplishing over the two decades. So, in that sense, I'm pretty optimistic about artist/writers like you and I will be able to accomplish in comics– it'll just be different than what we imagined when we were kids. That's all. I totally agree that its depressing, though, to see the shops close. I actually had two stores close on me in two years, and I currently have to drive 30 miles to the nearest LCS. All the book stores in my town have closed as well. Sigh.

harkovast - Good to see you commenting, buddy! Sorry to see you get executed by the Phantom Lord so quickly, though!

jazzcop - Yep! That was him!

repoman - I go with the old standby - Very carefully. I've noticed I've gotten more extreme with that portion of his design over the years, actually! There's another character within Mastorism competing for best antagonist, though… we'll see him in the next couple weeks…. and ooooo… he's bad! We already knew it, but the bad guys are really cutting loose in this story!
