That logo on Iki's chest is one of the many, many brands that rule the Structure. This world doesn't have a government in the traditional sense. Everything is owned and decided by corporations. The brand you work for may provide you with living space, insurance and anything else you need. Laws may differ from district to district, depending which the most powerful brand in that district is.

Brand loyalty has effectively replaced religion. (And traditional religious worship has been declared a mental illness in many districts, you know, to keep the competition out.) It's the ultimate materialist utopia.

Brand logos are animals in most cases, since animals have pretty much gone extinct in the wild (except rats and mutant cockroaches). Most non-vermin animals can only be found in zoos.
