Food tester is one of D.'s standard features. Don't wanna get poisoned by a competitor? Let your beast head taste it first, they're immune to most stims & poisons and have a strong enough sense of taste/smell they'll know if something tastes iffy.

Vat Brains is yet another name for neuro cores, who are also used as quasi soothsayers when it comes to business investments. They calculate win/loss rates, watch the patterns of the planetary & galactic economy and make investment predicitons based on it.

The kitties are organic robots, called Orga Mascots. A meaty body controlled by a neuro core, either remotely or the core gets inserted directly into the mascot. You know, like the teddy bear in Akira? Maybe slightly less nightmarish. Slightly. These are often used to entertain guests at restaurants, beauty parlors, spas, so on.
