…Huh. Well that's strange.

This page is actually something I've wanted to draw for a very, very long time. Scene 6 long time.

For those who don't remember, this song is much longer than appears.

————-

Who's afraid of the Boogeyman?
Not me.
Who's afraid of the Boogeyman?
Not me.

He'll eat your skin from head to feet.
He'll chew on your bones for an extra treat.
But who's afraid of the Boogeyman?
Not me.

He'll drink your blood until you're dry.
You cannot scream, don't even try.
So don't be afraid of the Boogeyman.
Who's afraid of the Boogeyman?
Not me.

————-

The odd thing about this song is, it seems contradictory, listing all these horrible things he'll do, then proclaiming to have no fear. It's almost humorous, in a dark, twisted sort of way.

Only after I wrote it, though, I understood it. In all my conceptions of the Boogeyman as a character, I'd always held to the fact that he feeds on fear. The adrenaline that fuels people's "flight or fight" response, the terror raging through their body. He gets off on that thing. The fact that he'll take souls that should be going to Death is only a hobby to piss him off.

Fear lures him. And one can only hope the song is a sort of amulet, protecting the singer or the ones it is sung to from the Boogeyman himself.

Assuming people AREN'T afraid of him. Which rarely happens when hearing that song just before bedtime.

I'd considered this as a sort of odd nursery rhyme, though something tells me nowadays children would sing it to each other (maybe while jump-roping), rather than parents singing it to their children.

At any rate… art! I planned on giving him a little purr in the last panel, but time is cut short today. Same with the possibility of adding in a glowing red eye…
