In case you are not an errant DND nerd I will explain that when a magical staff is damaged it releases its magical energy and explodes. Shadow reacted quickly enough that she tossed it out into the town square to do untold damage but I guess that's what her "saving's throw" alluded to. But yeah Mr. Fighter's Guild really fucked everything up. Or Garret did. I can't get it out of my head this is his fault. I guess because everything always is.
