In three months I'll be starting classes at Berkeley. Many of my fellow seniors are going there because they know what they want to do with their lives, and studying at Berkeley will help them do that. Doctors, programmers, lawyers, future congressmen, teachers, drug addicts, composers, environmentalists, and me. I want to draw funny pictures. There is no class I can take that will help me accomplish this ignoble feat. I chose to major in political science solely because Bill Watterson and Stephen Pastis did.

So why am I doing this? Because the more I know, the more I can make fun of. And I need to find a legitimate career to tide me over until someone makes the mistake of publishing my garbage.

One thing is for certain: I am not going to get published drawing Mario and Metal Gear parodies. This is practice. Once MGA is over, I am going to start an original series - not in hopes of getting rich and famous, but in hopes of finding my own voice.

If you have a talent, if you have a DrunkDuck, if you can make people laugh and if you know that's what you want to do with your life, don't waste it on video game sprites. Don't assume you can never hit it big, because then you won't. You owe it to yourself to make money off of your talent, so try. You have nothing to lose.
