Chapter 4, page 18.

According to the energy cycle, a human would gain the same nutritional value from eating plants directly that they would from eating animals that consumed roughly 10 times that biomass. The idea being it's more efficient and humane to eat plants and not animals… but if we really wanted we could skip plants altogether and all live on solar power and multivitamins. Which then just raises the question of whether it's right for us to feed ourselves off the waste heat of the Sun. I mean, giant balls of burning gas have feelings too. That's all I'm saying.
