…but Degami makes the honest mistake of thinking they're from something she's actually read.
Weird Alien Telepathy is a reference to the RBT comic.
You can draw an ellipse by placing a piece of string loosely around two pegs and then using a pencil to stretch the string taut and trace the outline. Since the total distance between the pencil and each peg must remain the same, and the tangent angle of the line is the same for each peg at all points, a signal originating from either peg in any direction will strike the line and be reflected back at the identical angle, in the precise direction of the other peg. I think the Maryland Science Museum (coincidentally, in Baltimore's Inner Harbor) has an exhibit set up like this.
Yuh and Foh are named after "U.F.O." (pronounced "yufo"), the acronym for Unidentified Flying Object, the typical vehicle of space aliens. As aerial performers I suppose the aliens themselves could be considered a U.F.O.
The Sydney Opera House is a very distinctive looking building in Australia, where this particular Postal Girl story takes place. Distinctive buildings are great for establishing shots, especially when you want to set something in a metropolitan area other than Tokyo or New York.
Panels 1, 4, and 5: The song lyrics are indeed from "There's the Girl" by Heart, from the 1987 album Bad Animals.
