ConnorLachmanec onThe beasts were not made for this. In their former life of freedom, they were peaceful and wise beings known for their healing power. But they have forgotten what they were. A life of darkness and cruelty beneath the earth has turned them into monsters, the light magic that imbues their bodies perverted as a hammer against all dark beings. They charge into the rioting crowd, hooves trampling, pronged horns tossing, tusks rending, flames burning and red eyes flashing with fury.
Akantha sees the beasts approach and curses in Hellenic: “Skatos! I hate those things.”
Helga turns to Kat and for the first time today, she is afraid. “Is this circle gonna hold?”
A lump forms in Kat’s throat as they take in the fiery retribution descending on them. “Not against these guys, I’m sorry.”
Helga grabs Kat by the shoulder and turns their body to face her and looks sorrowfully down at the nymph, her aura fading to a soft pink. “Don’t be sorry. This is all my fault.”
Kat looks up at her lovingly, the fire fading from their eyes. “It’s okay,” they say softly, “you were only trying to help.”
Kat is still bleeding profusely out of their nose. Only magic has kept them going this long without collapsing from blood loss. “Let me get that for you.” She tenderly touches a glowing finger to Kat’s bleeding nose, healing the wound as a flaming beast bears down on them.
