~Page 79 - Reality Check~

In most games, death is only a minor setback.

If it's an arcade game, you use up one of your "continues" to replay the level you failed.

If it's an MMORPG, you lose a bit of xp, or gp, or sometimes you just have to wait a little bit.

If it's an online FPS, you just respawn.

If it's a singleplayer game, you just load from your last save.

And by far the worst: if it's a tabletop RPG, you just get resurrected.

This is basically the conversation that follows the death of a player character:

"He's dead."
"Well that sucks."
"I know; it costs like, what, 5000 gold pieces for a res?"
"Ugh. Something like that. Plus, we gotta drag his stupid body all the way back to town. That'll take, like, a whole month."
"Next time, this idiot is paying for his own res."
"Or we can just sell all his stuff, keep the cash and not res him."

And of course, the only people that get res'ed in these games are the player characters. Any NPCs who die are mourned - they're never coming back. The PCs sure as hell aren't gonna pay to have them res'ed. But if a PC dies? All roleplaying goes out the window.

PS. Sapphire likes standing in the foreground, close to the camera.

PPS. I've replied to the comments on the last page. Hopefully cleared up the "selflessness" bit.

PPPS. Happy New Year.
