Have you ever noticed that some players in tabletop RPGs are granted roleplaying immunity from the Game Master? That regardless of how stupid or out-of-character they behave, the Game Master will just ignore them, but nonetheless come down hard on other players for a similar offense?

It's like when you're watching a movie, and one of the actors is just really, really bad, but the other characters in the movie don't seem to notice that this particular character does not act in a natural or believable manner.

Or when in RPGs, you go around and open random barrels, boxes, and drawers in people's houses, looking for gold coins, potions, and anything worth selling, while the NPCs largely pretend that this is regular behavior and that they do not at all mind having their belongings rifled through and permanently borrowed.
