I'm sure there's some fancy movie jargon for it, but I find it rather annoying when characters explain something for no reason other than informing the audience. I think it's a form of exposition called "Character Lecture," or "As you know, Jim."

It just seems so forced - what in-character reason does the character have for saying this? What's even worse is when they make up some half-assed reason, like a character comes around and actually asks what's up. How convenient.
