Page 102 - Hang-O-Lantern

Hanging a lantern (or lampshade), for those who don't know, is a "trick" used in fiction to deflect attention from something absurd that would fixate the audience by calling attention to it and pointing out how absurd it is.

"What?" the audience asks. "They were saved by the contents of the chest? Isn't that a little too convenient?" Jade then points out (sarcastically, albeit) that it was intended to be convenient by the writers. Once pointed out, the audience could move on. "Ah, at least we're not the only ones who think it was convenient."

It's really a trick to cover up bad writing.
