Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday! If you have some time you should definitely check out the new Quackcast Christmas Special. Not just because it’s a fun listen, but also because it features a pretty kickass musical score for Nocturne 21! A HUGE shoutout and thanks to Gunwallace for creating such an awesome and fitting piece for my comic (seriously, it’s one of the coolest things to happen to me). On another note:

So originally this page was the first time you find out Kai’s name. Page 49. I waited until the last possible second, when I was editing and adding dialogue, when he definitively needed a name, to come up with one. I’m so indecisive and it was so difficult to come up with something. I had been sitting on Kai for a while and it started to grow on me. I liked that Kai was a name in many different cultures and it’s short and sweet. The deciding factor though was finding out that in The Snow Queen, Kai is a boy who loses who he is because of glass fragments of a demonic mirror that enter him. It tied in really well with my MC, who also kind of loses himself and who’s very first act when waking up is to break a mirror (a really happy coincidence). Glass is kind of a heavy theme in these early chapters so I thought the parallels were really cool.

In the last iteration of the story, Kai didn’t have a definitive name. They basically made a “name calendar” for him and tried something new everyday until he picked something he liked. It was kind of funny, but mostly a cartoonish concept and didn’t really work for the tone of this version. Pretty sure it was “past me”’s way of dodging coming up with a name for him, lol. This time I forced myself to do the hard work and make a decision. I’m very glad I did.
