FFS #39: Holy Startling Revelation, Batman!

Last night sucked. I really wanted to beat Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, but I didn't get a chance to because I had a headache the rivaled the feeling of being struck with a baseball bat, with nails in it…Acid tipped nails. Needless to say, that's also why the comic wasn't up for when everyone woke up. But it's still Sunday, so I'm not late.

Anyway, I did manage to beat Drake's Fortune this morning, and even on easy, that was the most frustrating game I have ever played in my life. Now, don't take that to mean that I don't like the game, because nothing's farther from the truth. The game is so bright and colorful, but still very dark and brooding. The gameplay is fun for the most part, except during gunfights. The platforming is top-notch, which is nothing that I wouldn't expect from Naughty Dog.

The other thing that interested me a lot about this game is how the game was acted out. Instead of voice recording in a studio, in front of a microphone, all of the characters in the game are played by actors who put on the fabled motion capture suit, and act out the game. They record the dialogue while they motion capture the scenes. I think this is what lends to the movie feel in both the movement and the dialogue of the characters, and I think that all games should be made like this.

I think the game is long, but I'm not sure. I beat it over the course of three days, which is a new record for me. But, to be fair, I very rarely stopped playing it, except for when the combination of the game and my cat brought me to a boiling point.

PS3 owners, get Drake's Fortune. Non-PS3 owners, well, find something to fill the void, even though it will never come close to action-adventure, true-to-life platforming action of Drake's Fortune, suckers.
