A late update; sorry about that. This particular situation has happened to quite literally every waiter, bartender and chef I have ever known. No, we don't serve chips. Yes, we are a pub. No, we DON'T serve chips. Yes, it IS a fancy menu. No, I don't eat quail either: not unless there's one left over at the end of the night and there's a bit of leg left after the KP's had a crack at it. I got in a full blown debate with a punter once about socio-economic injustice in London and all the other parts of the UK he'd never heard of. I just work here OK, if I was in charge of the menu it'd probably be bangers and mash all round with a choice of Vienetta for dessert! AND I'd pay my staff a proper living wage, so rack off! …Ahem.
