In regards to the previous comic, I was asked by KAM:

Are they truly undocumented, per se?
Given that magic exists in this world & is known, the explanation that they are hundreds of years old & have been locked in a magical prison to keep the world safe from a dangerous magic-user would be a lot more plausible to the authorities than in our world.
Presumably there must exist some kind of documentation to prove there were people with their “alleged” names had existed & possibly some kind of magic users who could attempt to confirm if there is any truth to their stories.

—————–

I will answer the question, since I believe everything I’m about to say has been mentioned, spelled out, or insinuated, thus far in the comic.

Bodil and Nemi come from a time early after the “wrath of goddess” event (which… I *think* has been mentioned in-comic before). As far as anyone would know, both are long dead… possibly forgotten, if they have no living ancestors. We have no idea if Nemi’s Coven is even still around.

Being documented means the government would be keeping tabs on you…. especially if you are a very powerful magick user. Though, since magick has dwindled over the years (remember, Nemi is 500 years old, and Bodil is older than that), it means inherent magick has well. So most people that do have magickal abilities, can’t do all that much with it, to where it’s be an issue. Since power in magick is what ultimately led to the “wrath of goddess”… people tend to be very afraid of very powerful magick users.

First point: Nemi and Bodil are likely, presently, the most powerful non-living beings on the planet. How do you think people, let alone governments, would react?

Second point: Nemi and Bodil are likely the most powerful NON-LIVING beings. While spirits may not be unheard of… they are typically intangible. They don’t typically have FORM. This would be unheard of, aside from maybe faerie tales.

Long story short, Fes and Ernst know that, with all the information that Nemi had given them, that avoiding authorities would be the best idea.
