Yes its filler.

Since I wasn't able to finish today's comic page I figured I should at least put up what took my attention away from the comic. Here's my first experiment with digital painting I mentioned yesterday. It's my goldfish, Tomodachi.

Thanks everyone for your support and patience while I slack off a little. Your comments really mean a lot to me.

And the inchworm invasion continues.

And a super special announcement!! If you know me, you know I like pandas, and I follow a lot of panda news so…. Bai Yun, the giant panda female out in San Diego gave birth to her fourth panda cub early Friday morning! Awesome news! When I was out in SD we went to the zoo and got to see Su Lin and Mei Sheng, two of Bai's other cubs.

Congrats Bai Yun!

Jonko - I had a basic sketch of Tomo that I took into Photoshop and pretty much took ran with it there.

Chip - I still don't believe I can. :P To a certain extent that is. I know I can recreate something in front of me, but when it comes to creatively drawing up a scene just from out of nowhere… I struggle a lot with that. Without that ability I feel more like a copy artist. I think I'll keep trying though.

D0m - It's my first serious attempt. About a month ago I did a really simple puppy just to experiment with some tools. I didn't use a tablet for that and I think I prolly would have been happier if I had. This and the puppy are the only things I'd put into the digital painting category.

Powder Rune - Thanks so much for all the kind words. Like I just mentioned to D0m, the only other digital painting I've attempted was a quick puppy about a month ago as a test to see if I'd like it. I really didn't spend much time on it, so the goldfish I consider to be the first serious attempt, taking two nights to complete.

I don't want to misrepresent myself though, and while I've never used Photoshop before as a painting application, I'm no stranger to the program and how to use it. With ten years working experience in PS, the tools are all pretty familiar. I've always considered myself a hack and slash user though, meaning I can take photos and pre-made art and hack it together into something else, or do a bit of photo manipulation. The jobs I've had don't require much more than that since I focus more on layout and design than original art.

I'm glad you like the scales, on a whim I though the fish needed more texture so I went back over it and drew each of the scales. I didn't know what it'd look like when I started but I was extremely happy once I finished and zoomed back out again. And honestly I don't think I could explain exactly what I did to get the pebbles they way they are. It was several really quick steps of trial and error. You are absolutely correct about the plants in the background too!

Whew, I talk to much.
