I think Optimus Prime has the ability to open up a hole to "Hammer Space" where characters store things too big for their pockets, but something they can easily pull things out of. Bugs Bunny has the ability where he has pulled mallets from. Hence "Hammer Space." I guess it'd be something like space bridge technology.

Regarding Animated Optimus's axe…I couldn't remember where his axe came from, so that's why I included the notation, but that figure in particular gets his massive axe from his trailer…though it's not really a trailer, it's something that fits onto his feet…like the back of a pickup or something.
