I don’t know the history of the movies, but if it was a big enough fight to include King Ghidorah and Mothra’s names in the title, I’d say it was a big deal. And it was the first time since the Showa era that Mothra and King Ghidorah fought Godzilla. GMK is the quintessential Godzilla/King Ghidorah/Mothra monster mash. King of the Monsters looks like it’s trying to outdo GMK.

All I know is that I love me some King Ghidorah and can't wait to see him on the big screen in all his CGI glory.

And GMK Godzilla was easily the scariest looking Godzilla…until Shin Godzilla. That thing is nightmare worthy.
