I had an argument with my sister over Thanksgiving. She doesn’t care about Star Wars, but hates Baby Yoda and said he’s only there for the moichandizing, but having seen the show, I can honestly say…that’s only part of the reason. He has a purpose on the show and a big part of that is to humanize Mando and to propel the story. The design is for the toys and to bring people in, but the character himself actually has a purpose and I couldn’t get that point across to my sister. My brother-in-law, who likes the show, wouldn’t back me up.
