I knew that if I ever wanted another character to acknowledge the existance of comics, it'd be Nanako. But I didn't want her to be actually aware so I said to myself "J.C." (because I refer to myself in the third person through my thought process…) "J.C. you should just make Nanako have crazy fever ramblings. Just like you did that time you had a high fever and you spent 2 hours mumbling about how Pigs would be the dominate species if they had thumbs"
