News This week’s writer’s challenge is Pinky TA. Go to the forums and write a short fanfic on Pinky TA. the entries are pretty good, check them out! ^_^
Page description: Pinky backs up and lobs a single rocket. The barricade disappears in a flaming cloud of black, choking smoke, flame, and splinters. Pinky manoeuvres the S.S.V.5 through the smoke, hoping to see an end to the resistance and an easier, less painful path to the destruction of this facility… -Only to find that she’s been duped. The troops were fighting so hard to protect civilians, women, children, wounded, elderly… People who had presumably been gathered to shelter from the tribal attack they had been warned of: This doesn’t seem much like a vital military facility at all. All Pinky’s recent killing seems a lot worse to her now. The destruction she caused with the removal of the barricade has added to that considerably.
Commentary: This is my favourite page of Pinky TA. It’s the ultimate one really. It marks the end of Pinky’s adventures for this stage while things move on to Cc. Wander Jive played brilliantly with the scrolling conventions of the web and this was my humble attempt at something similar. Like the title says: Scroll right, down, left. The story is sort of animated that way. The full view of the battle damaged S.S.V.5 turned out ok, it’s standing a bit high and the lower legs look a bit long, but you’re looking up at it, so it sort of works out. This page went up around the time of hurricane Katrina in the US and that terrible earthquake in Pakistan and Kashmir, so the experience of the refugee and human tragedy was very easy to tap into. The idea had been planned for quite a while, but the art was done then and it was interesting to paint a response to the feelings floating around (I never saw any TV news images or photographs of those events then. I get my news from the radio).
Writer's challenge! Do the writer’s challenge It’s a fun way to practise your writing ^_^ (Next challenge is on Wednesday the 15th)
A note: Go to my main site for the latest work (10th February, 2006). I’m uploading one page a day with commentary and explanations here.
