You never see Articuno flying back up, but it happens.

Charizard tries to attack Mewtwo, but Mewtwo uses Psychic to hold Charizard in place, also prompting Articuno to stop and charge up instead.

Then, Blaine calls his Rapidash and Arcanine to both use Flamethrower, making a spiraling Flamethrower that blows Mewtwo higher up in the air.
