Spacehawk's Space Madness Page 1

Here's page one of Spacehawk's adventure in Public Domain Funnies. I didn't flat-out mimic Basil Wolverton's artistic style for this project but I did add touches here and there. The hypnotic wave pattern that's serving as the background for panel one is a pretty good example.

I kept the interior of Spacehawk's ship fairly in tune with the way it was originally. I didn't spend too much time studying the colors of the old comics though. Nothing inside that ship, or even the ship itself, remained the same color for all that long. I made the ship itself green so it would match Spacehawk's spacesuit.

The title caption also echoes that of 1940's Spacehawk. (Except for the use of the Star Wars font. I know it's a corny touch but I couldn't help myself.)

For this story I decided to write a script for myself before I started drawing anything. This isn't my usual method but I decided that I should have some foundational framework set up before I began drawing. You may see my reasons why as the story progresses.
