PAGE TEN (Five Panels). Page Summary: Back to BILLY’S TIMELINE, as he attempts to hock his “magic coin” at a pawnshop. Dark and skeezy pawnshop scene.

Panel 1. We are back in BILLY’S timeline. Exterior Shot of Carmine’s Pawn Shop and the surrounding block.

BILLY (from the shop): COME ON CARMINE…

BILLY (from the shop): I FIGGER IT’S GOTTA BE WORTH SOMETHIN’.

BILLY (from the shop): LOOK. I’LL EVEN GO DOWN TO SEVENTY.

Panel 2. Zoom in. BILLY and the pawnshop owner, Carmine (looking at the magic coin through a loupe), are appraising the gem imbedded in BILLY’S hand. It’s your typical, sleazy, pawnshop scene, just a little more dreadful, because all the bombs have dropped, and money is fairly hard to come by now. Carmine breaks the bad news to BILLY, who is pleading further. Lenny, Carmine’s right-hand man, looks on.

CARMINE: FORGET IT, BILLY. I NEVER SEEN A GEM LIKE THAT BEFORE. BESIDES THAT, HOW DO YOU SUPPOSE WE REMOVE IT?

BILLY: LISSEN, CARMINE, I GOTTA COP. BADLY!

Panel 3. Another Angle. BILLY offers his hand as collateral. Carmine declines.

BILLY: SHIT, CARMINE, TAKE THE HAND! JUST MAKE IT WORTH MY WHILE.

CARMINE: HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT GETTING A JOB, BILLY?

CARMINE: A JOB WOULD REALLY HELP YOU, MAN. YOU’RE PATHETIC.

Panel 4. Zoom in. Carmine grows steadily more impatient with a further-pleading BILLY.

CARMINE: NO. YOU TAKE YOUR STUPID ROCK, AND YOUR LAZY ASS OUTTA MY SHOP!

BILLY: BUT–

CARMINE: I AIN’T TELLIN’ YOU TWICE, CAPRA.

Panel 5. Close on BILLY, who makes a last ditch offer.

BILLY: FINE. FINE. I DIDN’T WANT TO GO THIS LOW…

BILLY: HOW BOUT FIFTY, AND WE CALL IT A DAY, HUH?
