Panel 1. Medium Shot. Nick mocks Billy as Stoltz prepares them all to leave.
NICK: WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU?
BILLY: HEY, WHAT DO I KNOW FROM FASHION? THIS WAS “IN†BEFORE THE BOMBS DROPPED.
STOLTZ: HE LOOKS FINE. CAN WE PLEASE GO NOW?
Panel 2. Leaving their room behind, the Heroes make their way down a corridor of the Hotel California; which used to be a fairly classy place, but is now dingy with disrepair.
NICK: SO, BILLY…
NICK: ABOUT THE BOMBS–
NICK: WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED? IT LOOKS LIKE WORLD WAR THREE HIT.
BILLY: YEAH, WELL, THAT WAS PRETTY MUCH IT.
Panel 3. Exterior Shot. The Heroes exit the Hotel California and make their way to the sidewalk. We see the formerly glitzy hotel as well as the wasted city of Billings in the dreary daytime, roughly 15 years after WWIII. No real damage from a bombing; more like the wake of a city that’s about half as populated as it used to be, and the indigent people have to settle with the hand that fate (and two loony presidents) dealt them. It’s a sometime storm-plagued ghost town, with many of the local transients deformed and scarred. Most of the local propaganda and advertisements around the city are still from the late eighties.
BILLY: IT WAS THE MID EIGHTIES. YOU REMEMBER ALL THE GRIEF WE WERE GIVING THE SOVIETS?
BILLY: “EVIL EMPIRE†AND ALL THAT CRAP?
Panel 4. Zoom out. Billy continues to explain as the heroes walk down the street. We see more of the depressed state of Billings, Montana.
BILLY: WELL, TEMPERS ELEVATED. BUNCHA “HE SAID, SHE SAID†BULLSHIT…
BILLY: SOON AS YOU KNOW IT, ONE OF THOSE ASSHOLES ACTUALLY PUSHED THE BUTTON.
