Page Summary: In flashback, we see how life was after the accident (his detachment from people, his personal workout regimen, etc. End with TONY glowing and in tremendous pain with the signature Quantum energy (a.k.a. stars and planets).

Panel 1. Flashback. Medium Shot. Tony in a hospital bed, as a doctor breaks the bad news to Tony’s desperate parents in an adjoining room.

CAPTION: EVEN BEFORE THE DOCTORS.

CAPTION: AND JUST LIKE THAT, BEFORE IT EVEN STARTED, MY SHOT AT DESTINY WAS OVER.

Panel 2. Flashback. Zoom in. Tony stoic in his hospital bed, face as stone.

Panel 3. Flashback. Rear Angle. Tony is wheeling down his neighborhood sidewalk, the locals looking on in pity, perhaps a couple whispering to each another and pointing. All is still very Mom-and-apple-pie in Tony’s neighborhood.

CAPTION: SO YOU DO WHAT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO DO. YOU PICK UP, AND TRUDGE ON WITH THE LIFE THAT YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO SALVAGE FROM WHATEVER’S LEFT.

CAPTION: YOU HOPE AND PRAY THAT IT’S ALL A BAD DREAM, THAT SOON YOU’LL WAKE UP. THIS, OF COURSE, NEVER HAPPENS.

CAPTION: AND EVERY EYE YOU SEE FROM THAT DAY ON JUST DRIVES IT HOME EVEN MORE.

Panel 4. Flashback. Medium Shot. Tony works out his upper body in his garage/private gym. Trophies, news clippings, and awards adorn one of the walls.

CAPTION: WHAT DOES WORK ON ME I STILL TRY TO KEEP IN SHAPE.

CAPTION: HELL, I JUST CAN’T SIT HERE ALL THE TIME.

CAPTION: IF I SPENT THE PAST TEN YEARS DOING THAT, I REALLY WOULD HAVE GONE CRAZY.

Panel 5. Flashback. Close shot. Tony glows from the Quantum as he writhes in pain, his face filled with stars and planets.

CAPTION: BUT ALL THAT CHANGED YESTERDAY.

CAPTION: WHEN, FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEARS, PAIN.
