It's no surprise to anyone that when you spend a bit of time only showing a character's face that there's gonna be some sort of reveal when you come out of it. I'm personally trying to think of what was going on here before this happened.
I guess Johei was already dressed for bed and told Tanuki what happened, but then Tanuki stripped down and climbed in with him after hearing the story.
I like this little back and forth between them though because this isn't the first time this has happened. Tanuki may be as sweet and smooth as peach pie filling, but she's not a very good listener.
