I am not sure this one translates like I hoped it would. It is tough to convey tone of voice. Basically he is using the cliche "tell me about it" meaning "me too". She obviusly takes him literally.

This is based on an actual conversation I had with a total stranger. While waiting in line to get in a bar he said "Rough week". I said "tell me about it" and he proceeded to tell me about every bad thing that happened to him all week.
