165 - Words and Lyrics

Okay, so this one came from nowhere and it has a story behind it. When I was originally plotting out this storyline, yesterdays STRIP was the final one of them recording the demo. I went so far as to draw the next two strips. In thinking about it I felt I needed at least one more strip to show the mishaps of their experience in the studio.

In trying to design the follow-up strip(s) I broke format and laid out a longer, eight panel strip with a panel that I still have not gotten right (but the payoff could be huge). Work deadlines forced me to take some time away from that strip.

In reading the comments from YESTERDAY'S COMIC ANTCOMICS asked if there were lyrics for SON OF MATTER EATER LAD and actually, I had more than half of the song sort of written, which I was going to do something with down the road. Since she was interested, I figured more would be interested and I finished those lyrics, then whipped some lyrics together for CHRYSLER LE BARON UNDERBITE and threw the strip together. The title of the second song is a play on the name of a villain from the VENTURE BROTHERS, while the first song is about one of the LEGION OF SUPERHEROES.

BTW the chorus for CHRYSLER LE BARON UNDERBITE has gang vocals, that is the entire band chants the chorus in unison.

I have been asked what kind of music the band plays. I go back and forth in my head, but they clearly play extreme metal. I realized what is tame for me, would still be extreme for most of the mainstream, but I decided that they are sort of a mathcore band. That is a very loud, distorted, yet technical band with a lot of tempo and time changes. For expamples listen to songs by ELECTRO QUARTERSTAFF (an instrumental band, add screaming vocals) and the DILLENGER ESCAPE PLAN (one of the best band names ever BTW). Although I am a big metal guy, I don't necessarily like everything these two bands have done (though a lot of it is cool), but think they fit with what Billy's band sounds like, very chaotic and to most, just noise.
